Johns Hopkins University Selects Unicon to Develop uPortal Mobile for Campus & Students
Phoenix, AZ - April 21, 2008 - Unicon, Inc., the leading provider of open source enterprise portals, applications, and top end technology consulting for higher education, today announced it has been chosen by Johns Hopkins University to develop and deploy its new mobility theme based on uPortal, the open source enterprise portal for higher ed. The mobility theme is designed to enhance the functionality and content of its campus portal to make it accessible by mobile devices such as cell phones, SmartPhones, and PDAs and more useful to students, faculty, and administrators. The mobility development work and testing is scheduled to be completed and go live in the summer of 2008. Johns Hopkins University plans to donate the mobile development work back to the uPortal open source community.

The JA-SIG uPortal Project Steering Committee is extremely pleased to announce the release of uPortal 3.0, the next generation community source portal platform designed by and for the higher education community. The new release marks a major, evolutionary step forward for the award-winning project. Version 3.0 has brought the rock solid, high performing uPortal 2.x product to a new level, incorporating current best practices in enterprise Java. JA-SIG server outage March 15th through 16th
Due to scheduled down time, all sites on www.ja-sig.org, developer.ja-sig.org and www.uportal.org will be unavailable from 6pm Eastern Time, Saturday March 15th through 10pm Eastern Time, Sunday March 16th.
This means that the wiki, issue tracker, web site, source, and downloads will be unavailable during this time frame.
The mailing lists will be unaffected. If you have any questions or concerns about the outage please contact infrastructure@ja-sig.org

JA-SIG is pleased to announce selection of pre- and post-conference seminars about open source software for the Spring 2008 JA-SIG conference to be held in St. Paul, Minnesota. Pre-conference events to be held on Sunday April 27th include hands-on introductions to Kuali Financials, Spring PortletMVC, Fedora repository, and CAS; tutorials on uPortal and DSpace upgrading; and seminars on JavaScript and identity management. uPortal 3 Developer Workshop Scheduled in April
Time will be set aside on the Wednesday of the spring Developers Meeting (4/25) for uPortal 3 developer training and mentoring. We encourage anyone interested in learning more about uPortal framework development or beginning a uPortal 3 implementation to attend. Training will be conducted by some of the core uP3 developers.

uPortal 3 RC 1 Released
uPortal 3, the next generation open source enterprise portal, is now available for download. Institutions can immediately begin working with and testing the portal's latest frameworks and enhancements for their future planned rollouts and implementations. Unicon served as the chief architectural organization responsible for developing most of uPortal 3's technology framework enhancements and for delivering it to the uPortal open source community in its current state.
